There are housing grants for women, student grants for women, and grants for women to start a business from scratch. Let’s examine some of the top categories and the best opportunities within each of them.

Grants for women business owners

The first place to look for information about grants for women business owners and other support is the Small Business Association. The website has a section entitles Women’s Business Centers that includes over 100 resources. There is also information about the Women-Owned Federal Contracting Program that assists women in receiving federal contracts. Grants for women entrepreneurs include the following:

  • SBA Grant

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is involved with the Program for Investment in Entrepreneurs Act. Grants of up to $250,000 are provided to programs that work with entrepreneurs through support and training. Guidelines strongly promote female owned businesses

  • New York State Division of Minority and Women Business Development

  • Change, Inc.

Fellowships

Some companies offer a student grant for women in the form of scholarships

APS/IBM Research Internship for Undergraduate Women awards a minimum of $2500 to juniors and seniors with at least a 3.0 GPA.

AAUW offers fellowships to women outside of the U.S. Award begin at $18000 and must be applied for by December of each year.

Housing Grants for Women

Women in low-income situations who have dependents can search for a housing grant for women. The federal government’s Transitional Housing Assistance program is a temporary solution for female domestic violence victims. There are a variety of features to the program including counseling and career support. Individuals in need of housing grants for women can get information about the program through local community groups and the Department of Social Services.

Applicants must be women with at least a 3.25 GPA in an undergraduate or graduate program. Undergraduates must have completed a minimum of at least 60 credits.
